TOUCHSTONEGold & Silver Buyers Request a visit

Gold · Silver · Sterling · Fine watches

See every number before you decide to sell.

We test your gold and silver in front of you, put the weight, purity and today's price on paper, and pay you on the spot if you accept. If you don't, you leave with everything you brought.

Why we're called Touchstone. For centuries, assayers have drawn gold across a black stone and compared the streak to known karats. It's the original honest test, done where the seller can watch. That's how we work.
  • Your item is weighed on a certified scale that faces you
  • Itemized written offer: weight, purity, today's price
  • No pressure and no obligation to sell
  • Paid on the spot by check or ACH bank transfer

The Touchstone Ticket

Every offer comes in writing, line by line.

Most complaints about gold buyers come down to one thing: the seller never saw the math. We hand it to you before you decide.

  • 01

Each piece is listed separately, so a heavy chain never hides a light ring.

  • 02

You see the karat we tested, the net weight after stones and clasps are excluded, and the pure gold or silver it contains.

  • 03

The day's market price is printed on the ticket, with the time it was pulled.

  • 04

Take the ticket home, compare it with anyone, and come back if you like. It's yours to keep.

How it works

Four steps, about twenty minutes, nothing hidden.

  1. Bring what you have

Broken chains, single earrings, old coins, the silverware in the attic. You don't need to sort or clean anything.

  2. We test it in front of you

Karat marks are checked by acid or electronic tester, and every piece goes on a scale you can read yourself.

  3. You get a written offer

Your Touchstone Ticket lists each item. Ask any question. Bring a family member to look it over with you.

  4. Sell, or take it home

Accept and you're paid on the spot by check or ACH bank transfer. Decline and you owe nothing.

The Touchstone promise

What to watch for anywhere you sell, and what we do instead.

News investigations into traveling gold shows keep finding the same tactics. We built our business so none of them can happen at our table.

Common red flag
At Touchstone

Items are taken to a back room or behind a screen to be tested.

Every test happens on the table in front of you, on a scale that faces you.

One lump-sum number with no explanation of how it was reached.

An itemized written ticket showing karat, weight, pure content and the day's price.

"This offer is only good right now."

Take your ticket home and think it over. We'd rather you sell once you're sure.

Real gold called plated or "mostly copper" to justify a low offer.

If we question a piece, we show you the test result and you can have it retested elsewhere.

The same company running under different names from town to town.

One name, Touchstone, everywhere we go, so you always know who you dealt with.

Large amounts of cash handed over with no record.

Payment by check or ACH bank transfer, with a receipt. Safer for you on the drive home.

No license on display in the town where they're buying.

We obtain the license each town requires before we open, and we keep it on the table.

Value estimator

Know your melt value before you walk in.

Melt value is the market worth of the pure metal in your item. No buyer pays 100% of it, because refining and testing cost money. Any honest buyer will tell you what share of melt they pay. Ask us, and ask everyone else too.

Questions

Straight answers.

Do you pay in cash?

No. We pay by check or ACH bank transfer, on the spot, the moment you accept. You don't leave carrying an envelope of cash, and you have a clear record of the sale.

Do I have to sell if I get an appraisal?

Never. The appraisal is free and the ticket is yours to keep. Many people take it home, compare, and come back.

What do I need to bring?

Your items and a government-issued photo ID. State and town laws require us to record the identity of every seller, and you must be 18 or older.

How do you decide how much to offer?

For gold and silver: tested purity times net weight times the day's market price, less a disclosed share for refining and our costs. Coins with collector value and fine watches are priced on their own market, which is often well above metal value. We'll explain whichever applies.

What happens to stones in my jewelry?

We remove them where we can and hand them back to you. Diamonds of significant size are evaluated separately if you'd like an offer on them.

Can a family member come with me?

Please do. A second pair of eyes is welcome at our table, and so are questions.

Is my sterling silverware worth anything?

Often more than people expect. Solid 925 pieces are bought by weight. Knives and candlesticks are often "weighted" with filler, and we'll show you how we account for that before making an offer.

What if I'm not sure something is real?

Bring it anyway. Testing is free, and we'll tell you plainly what we find, including when something isn't gold or silver.
